In Azerbaijan:
AIM is experienced in conducting trainings for other interested national and/or international NGOs on extension and team building. Participants at different workshops vary from key staff members of the organizations as well as field personnel. Various training sessions have been conducted on the establishment of extension services for the Private Agricultural Extension and Information Centre in Zagatala, since August 1999.
Experiences with UMCOR-Azerbaijan on extension service application have yielded positive results in training field extension agents with continued follow-up sessions during September,1999 – December 2000.
Several classroom trainings as well as coaching visits for Children’s Aid Direct, a British humanitarian organization in Azerbaijan, have been conducted on the following: Communicational Behavior for field staff in Tar-Tar from August 1-3, 2000; Communication and Team building from September 6-8, 2000; and Team Building for key staff in Mingechavir from November 8-10, 2000.
A short-term assignment with World Vision International on strengthening the agricultural potential of communities and assisting in the improvement of the livelihood of community members via training of local agricultural specialists was successfully held from April 15 until June 15, 2004.
In Uzbekistan:
Upon invitation from the Urgench office of German Agro Action (GAA) in Uzbekistan, AIM conducted a short-term training workshop for participants selected by GAA during the month of April in 2005. The training took place in Urgench from April 18-28 and covered Extension Theory, Basic Farm Economics and Marketing Principles. The training was conducted by Head Trainer Mrs. Solmaz Adigozalova and trainer Mr. Yashar Iskandarov and aimed to enable the participants to:- Obtain better communication skills for extension purposes
- Understand advanced extension approach methodologies and planning
- Achieve initial knowledge and skills on marketing and farm business economy
In Tajikistan:
The offer from Mennonite Economic Development Associates (MEDA), a Canadian international NGO implementing “From Farm to Market,” a four-year project in North Tajikistan, was accepted with great interest by AIM. The goal of MEDA is to reduce poverty among farm families in Sugd Oblast through the development of the fruit and vegetable sub-sector. Upon winning the tender, AIM signed an agreement with MEDA to conduct a series of ‘Training of Trainers’ workshops with classroom trainings, practical field exercises and supervision of the trainees over time.
From June 6-16, 2005 the AIM trainer staff, including Solmaz Adigozalova, Fazil Jafarov and Nazakat Bayverdiyeva, conducted the first workshop at MEDA to train participants on the aspects of effective and efficient delivery of high quality and demand driven agricultural advisory services. As a result of these activities, the agro consultants of MEDA were trained to establish reliable consultancy services and make initial relationships with their client farmers.
Increasing awareness of communication behavior for extension purposes and extension methodology, the agro consultants of MEDA improved their problem-solving skills during the second workshop conducted in November 2005. This workshop, conducted by AIM trainers Yashar Iskandarov and Shamsi Shamiyev, included the following topics:- Identification and analysis of farming problems
- Planning of advisory work
- Establishment of demonstration fields
- Development of visual aids
The negotiations held between the head of MEDA in Tajikistan and AIM Management on opportunities of assisting the MEDA Project by appointing a trainer with an extended consultancy contract to the Khujend office were fulfilled successfully. AIM trainer Yashar Iskandarov was selected for a consultancy mission to MEDA for a two month period. In close cooperation with the Agricultural Extension Unit of MEDA Tajikistan Yashar continued to support the development of the extension department activity in MEDA’s four project regions. At the end of the mission he achieved the following:- Implement detailed assessment of advisory service in project areas
- Share experiences and facilitate MEDA’s Agriculture Department in developing an extension service strategy
- Assist agro-consultants to discover the best approaches to financing extension
- Discuss advisory service system planning applicable in Таjikistan
- Support M&E Department in assessment of extension service
- Create Extension Manual
- Create Trainer’s Handbook
- Design a strategy for creating a self sustainable Agricultural Extension Service
- Soil, Water and Plant Analysis LaboratoryOne of the steps taken by Agro Information Centre (AIM-Azerbaijan) to increase sustainability of extension service and expand high quality field of agricultural service has been commencement of Soil, Water and Plant Laboratory in Agjabedi in November.
What is our objective?
The main objective of establishing the lab is to give recommendations to farmers on effective fertilization strategy through analyses of soil, water and plant content. In other words farmers are supported to increase productivity via identifying nutrient matter shortage and serving a fertilizer at definite amount per ha.
What was the necessity for establishing the lab?
The solution of most of the problems faced by Azeri villager requires effective use and improvement of soil as it is the main means of production. The issue has been in the spotlight by farmers since the private property right of land was established. That’s why the elaboration of fertilization strategy to increase soil fertility is so important. But absence of laboratory around had became a serious problem. Whereas Agro Information Centre (AIM) decided to establish first Soil, Water and Plant Laboratory in the Aran region of our country.
What analyses are mainly carried out at the laboratory?
The analyses will identify content of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium nutrients within soil, water and plant, acidity, soil humus and calcimorphic feature.
Analyses carried out as per the above mentioned assignment enable saving from unnecessary expenses and application of resources. That’s to say the results of analyses may recommend the landowner on lower expenses within a concrete direction.
New generation of equipment which is broadly used throughout advanced European countries has been installed for analyses of soil, water, plant and fertilizer. Let’s get to know operating principle:
“Fiery photometer” – this device allows identify potassium, sodium, calcium, barium and lithium content of the soil.
“Spectrophotometer” – allows identify content of phosphorus.
“Device to identify nitrogen/protein” – allows identify nitrogen content in the soil and protein in the plants.
“Calcimeter” – allows identify Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3) level in the soil.
“PH-meter” & “Conductometer” – identifies acidity and salinity.

Uzbekistan. With the invitation of German Agro Action (GAA) Urgench office in Uzbekistan AIM conducted a short-term training workshop for the participants identified by GAA during the month of April, 2005. The training schedule on topics of Extension Theory, Basic Farm Economics and Marketing Principles took place in Urgench city from 18th to 28th of April. The training conducted by Head Trainer Mrs. Solmaz Adigozalova and trainer Mr.Yashar Iskandarov aimed to enable the participants to:- Obtain better communication skills for extension purposes
- Acquaint with advanced extension approach methodologies and planning
- Achieve initial knowledge and skills on marketing and farm business economy
Tajikistan. The offer from Mennonite Economic Development Associates-MEDA, a Canadian international non-governmental organization implementing a four years project in North Tajikistan with the aim to reduce poverty among farm families in the Sugd Oblast, through the development of the fruit and vegetable sub-sector was accepted with high interest by AIM. Wining the tender announced by submitting solid proposal package AIM signed an agreement with MEDA on conductance of a series ‘Training of Trainers’ workshops with auditorium trainings, practical field exercises and supervision of the trainees’ overtime.
During the period of 6th – 16th June, 2005 AIM trainer staff, consisting of Mrs. Solmaz Adigozalova, Head trainer, Mr. Fazil Jafarov, trainer and Ms. Nazakat Bayverdiyeva, facilitator has conducted the first workshop at MEDA Khujend office for the participants invited by MEDA to train them on the aspects relevant to the effective and efficient delivery of high quality and demand driven agricultural advisory services. As a result of these activities, the agro consultants of MEDA were trained to be able to establish reliable consultancy services and make initial relationships with their client farmers.

The third round of the “Training of Trainers” component within the project “From Farm to Market” implemented by MEDA in Sugd Oblast was conducted by Mr. Fazil Jafarov, AIM Director/Trainer, Mrs. Solmaz Adigozalova, Head Trainer and Mr. Yashar Isgandarov, Trainer during the period of 4 - 10 March, 2006. It included 6 days workshop for selected MEDA agro trainers and aimed to enable the participants to improve their theoretical and practical skills in planning and facilitation of coaching, conductance of auditorium workshops and field coaching.
The previously reported negotiations held between the head of MEDA in Tajikistan and AIM Management on opportunities of assisting the MEDA Project by seconding a trainer with an extended consultancy contract to MEDA-Khujend office completed successfully. AIM trainer Mr. Yashar Iskandarov has been appointed for consultancy mission to MEDA for two months period. In close cooperation with the Agricultural Extension Unit of MEDA Tajikistan Mr. Iskandarov continues to support the development of the extension department activity in MEDA’s four project regions. At the end of the mission he achieved the following:- Implement detailed assessment of advisory service in project areas

Agro Information Centre delivers fee-based trainings to increase sustainability and meet the needs of separate people in different fields. Besides the physical persons, the intensive courses are designed for the needs of juridical entities. Different trainings have already been delivered to the participants and certificated.
