Soil, Water and Plant Analysis Laboratory

One of the steps taken by Agro Information Centre (AIM-Azerbaijan) to increase sustainability of extension service and expand high quality field of agricultural service has been commencement of Soil, Water and Plant Laboratory in Agjabedi in November.

What is our objective?

The main objective of establishing the lab is to give recommendations to farmers on effective fertilization strategy through analyses of soil, water and plant content. In other words farmers are supported to increase productivity via identifying nutrient matter shortage and serving a fertilizer at definite amount per ha.

What was the necessity for establishing the lab?

The solution of most of the problems faced by Azeri villager requires effective use and improvement of soil as it is the main means of production. The issue has been in the spotlight by farmers since the private property right of land was established. That’s why the elaboration of fertilization strategy to increase soil fertility is so important. But absence of laboratory around had became a serious problem. Whereas Agro Information Centre (AIM) decided to establish first Soil, Water and Plant Laboratory in the Aran region of our country.

What analyses are mainly carried out at the laboratory?

The analyses will identify content of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium nutrients within soil, water and plant, acidity, soil humus and calcimorphic feature.

Analyses carried out as per the above mentioned assignment enable saving from unnecessary expenses and application of resources. That’s to say the results of analyses may recommend the landowner on lower expenses within a concrete direction.

New generation of equipment which is broadly used throughout advanced European countries has been installed for analyses of soil, water, plant and fertilizer. Let’s get to know operating principle:

“Fiery photometer”
– this device allows identify potassium, sodium, calcium, barium and lithium content of the soil.

“Spectrophotometer”
– allows identify content of phosphorus.

“Device to identify nitrogen/protein”
– allows identify nitrogen content in the soil and protein in the plants.

“Calcimeter”
– allows identify Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3) level in the soil.

“PH-meter” & “Conductometer”
– identifies acidity and salinity.
